ALEXANDER\u2019S STORY (via a truly terrible verse)<\/p>\n

This is the story of The Alexander Technique
\nNamed after the founder. It\u2019s fabulous! Unique!
\nIts extraordinary brilliance is worldwide recognised
\nEven applauded in the Nobel Prize<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alexander discovered a useful thing
\nFor those who want to act, dance, sing
\nRide a horse, swim, run, kick a ball
\nHis technique will help you all!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Or just \u2018To be more easily me!\u2019
\nAlexander Technique will set you free
\nIt’s simple to learn, to self apply
\nA skill to use from today \u2019til you die<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This story I share is all about you
\nA two legged (tottering biped) I hope to renew
\nWith knowledge and power and confident ease
\nA story of \u00a0freedom like the birds and the bees<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So without any further ado
\nLet me introduce our teacher to you
\nFrederick Mathias Alexander, it would be his fate
\nTo be in the hall of fame – those who made Australia great!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our adventure begins across the sea
\nOur hero\u2019s on stage ‘To be or not to be?\u2019
\nBut his comic shows of the English bard
\nIn Oz were straining, speaking was hard<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As he recited his voice got hoarse
\nHe consulted the doctors, but just felt worse
\n\u2018We\u2019ve looked, examined, we all agree
\nThere\u2019s nothing wrong in your throat to see!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His neck was sore, his voice no more
\nHis theatre dream becoming a chore!
\nThey wrung their hands and said \u2018Oh dear!
\nWith you at the top of your acting career!’<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018This is no good, I\u2019ll have to find
\nMy own solution! I\u2019ll use my mind
\nI’ve dealt with snakes and spiders wild
\nRode young farm horses since a child<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t accept the doctor\u2019s verdict
\nWhen up to now my voice has been perfect!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He set up three way mirrors and saw
\nThat as he spoke there was a flaw!
\nHis head pulled back, his chest was raised
\nIt made his voice sound weak and crazed!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He lost his tone when he talked like this
\n\u2018I must be seeing what doctors miss!\u2019
\nA Eureka moment! Fate! Yippee
\nHe\u2019d found the mechanism to set man free!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t hard, surprisingly easy
\nTo feel so great, light and breezy
\nHe\u2019d leave Oz now and go and seek
\nHis fortune in London with his technique<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He\u2019d spread the word, he\u2019d write a book
\nAnd bit by bit the world would look
\nAnd say \u2018Cor Blimey, what the heck
\nAll I have to do is free my neck!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018My natural balance is just there
\nWalking, standing, I am light as air
\nNo stress, no strain, no aching back
\nMy natural rhythm\u2019s back on track!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But first a way to pay his trip
\nAcross the Ocean on a ship
\nA hundred years ago or more
\nTo sail from Oz to UK shore<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018What shall I do to make the course?
\nI know what, I’ll back a horse
\nI’ll bet on one that’s nice and free
\nAnd surely that will pay for me<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If it moves with ease and grace
\nIt’s bound to have a striding pace
\nGood carriage will show inner poise
\n\u2018Forward, forward – ATTABOY!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alexander London went
\nHis passage paid, his money spent!
\nHe made his way to the West End Theatre
\nTo be a pioneering holistic teacher<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Actors he taught, they paid his wage
\nHe helped them free their breath on stage
\nAnd very soon his technique was known
\nAmong the leading lights of town<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Actors, writers, famous intellectuals
\nSaid \u2018Alexander you must go clinical
\nDoctor’s must be sensible
\nAnd adopt your amazing human principle!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018We are all excited to extol
\nThe incredible virtues of your primary control!
\nSomehow Alexander, you’ve uncovered
\nWhat up to now has been undiscovered!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You’ve found the body\u2019s guiding relation
\nThat must be true for all creation!\u2019
\n\u2018You’ve taught us how to be elastic
\nWe really do now feel fantastic!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But doctors are a sceptic lot
\nAnd though many loved him, others did not
\nThey could not believe that it could be true
\nWhen he said – \u2018Less is better than to do!\u2019<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And this is why the techniques still quite a hidden thing
\nActors and musicians learn it, to better act or sing
\nOr those who may have hurt their back
\nWill find a teacher to get back on track<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dressage riders, that\u2019s horse ballet
\nOr pupils of \u2018The art of Swimming\u2019, use it everyday
\nAnd a few cool schools teach the Alexander Technique
\nAnd find that kids learn better, a kind of thinking power peak!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
